The Winged Sun Disk Symbol Of Ancient Egyptian Religion Was Inspired By Total Solar Eclipses

The Internet Archive has done a pretty good job of preserving my 'The Ancient Egyptian Winged Sun Disk Symbol' eclipsology "web site". Here is the complete text of the original website with some of the images that it displayed along with some new ones -

The winged disk symbol is found throughout Egypt. It appears in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic inscriptions and on the royal seals and cartouches of Egyptian pharaohs. This ancient Egyptian religious symbol is found carved onto obelisks, the capstones of pyramids, and alabaster bas-reliefs and is painted onto fading ancient wall murals. The winged sun disk symbol graces the stone lintels of the entrances to a great many temples and palaces in Egypt. Numerous Egyptian pharaohs employed this ubiquitous religious symbol of their sun gods as a royal sign of their divinely ordained status.

I have collected considerable evidence which supports E. Walter Maunder's theory that the ancient Egyptian "winged solar disk" symbol was, in all probability, inspired by ancient observations of total solar eclipses. During some total solar eclipses the condensed equatorial streamers of the sun's corona stretching out on either side of the "black sun" formed by the occulting disk of the moon bear a striking resemblance to the outspread wings of a glorious celestial bird. At the same time the plume-like polar rays distinctly resemble the fanned-out tail-feathers of a gigantic cosmic bird. This wing-like appearance of the streamers of the sun's corona was first remarked upon by eclipse observers in the latter half of the 19th century and it quickly became fashionable amongst astronomers to refer to the sun's coronal streamers as "wings".

The above composite image of the July 11, 1991 total solar eclipse was created by Steve Albers.

For much more detailed information about how the ancient Egyptian winged disk symbol, the Egyptian's venerated solar falcon god Horus, the bennu bird or Phoenix, and other mythical "SunBirds" were all inspired by the remarkable "SunBird" that is manifested during some total solar eclipses please see my 'Pedigree of the Phoenix' "Web Sight" which also reveals how the ancient Mayans and Aztecs, as well as many other ancient civilizations such as the Babylonians, Hittites and Assyrians, developed very similar religious beliefs and practices, and religious iconography, as a direct result of seeing the radiant "Bird of the Sun" that is spectacularly manifested in the heavens above our planet as day turns to night during a total eclipse of the sun. . .

This modern composite image of the Sun during the June 21, 2001 total solar eclipse helps to reveal how total solar eclipses clearly inspired the winged Sun disk religious symbol of ancient Egypt which is a much more ancient composite image of the Sun.

  1. Umm, yes.. The Ancient Egyptian Winged Sun Disk Symbol.. a bold claim - do you not think it might have represented the Milky Way?

  2. No I don't Dave. The evidence that the winged *sun* disk aka winged *solar* disk was inspired by ancient Egyptian observations of the bird-like form of the sun's corona as seen during some total solar eclipses is overwhelming. For the record the British astronomer E. Walter Maunder first made this "bold claim" in various British journals way back in the mid-19th century but his well researched "bold claim" was apparently forgotten. . .

  7. There are probably very few, if any, people who know what the winged disc really means. I highly doubt it is a solar eclipse, a women's legs spread, nibiru, the sun, Saturn, etc. There are tablets with the sun, the moon, and the winged disc all in the sky. It exists in artifacts all over the world in very similar forms, same with the Egyptian shen (which is prominent in Aztec artwork and likely the origin of the dream catcher).

I have no idea what it is. But I do know that the way the ark of the covenant is described with the two 'cherubim' on the top with a glowing light or fire that communicates with 'Moses' sounds exactly like a winged disc. Heliopolis in Egypt was said to have a giant winged disc that people 'worshiped' as a god. This god was originally Atum then later Horus and Ra. This is likely the inspiration for the 'stargate' from the movie/show of the same name.

Makes me wonder what it really was. If it doesn't make you wonder, that's a shame. Imagination is good if you don't get too carried away. Thinking outside the box is also good. Critical thinking and thinking for yourself is important. We don't know our own history but there are a few people who do know something and are hiding the truth. It's not crazy once you start going down the rabbit hole. But it might turn you crazy the further you go.

  8. to anonymous dec 15 2011: the egyptians ADOPTED this symbol to depict either the solar eclipse or their falcon god horus. the winged disc ORIGINATED from the sumerians, or the anunnaki (from planet nibiru). originated from them because they were the first intelligent living beings on earth! and are the missing link. they genetically engineered homo erectus bodies and the blood or dna of an anunnaki god to make homo sapiens, with a lot of trial and error, and fashioned in the "likeness" (personality and life essence) of them by the anunnaki goddess. the disc is a vehicle that traveled from heaven by which the ancient Sumerians say "Kingship was lowered from heaven". look at pictures of it. its sharp and pointy and looks like a machine.

  12. Seems like the person who posted this is miss informed...you cant give meaning to a symbol and use words like "or" this is not a definite word. The winged disc is to remind individuals that they should be making daily improvements to their own lives as well keeping in mind we are all constantly preparing for the afterlife.

  13. The only place where I used the word "or" in this blog post is in the following phrase -

    the bennu bird or Phoenix

The Egyptian religion's "bennu bird" was their version of what we call the phoenix, in fact it is possible that the Greek phoenix myth derives from knowledge of Egyptian religion, although it is possible that the Greeks developed their phoenix myth independently from that of ancient Egypt, as other cultures almost certainly did. That is hardly misinformed is it?

BTW What's so funny about the fact that "Europeans are trying to overstand (sic) and teach African history"? Is it any funnier than Africans trying to "overstand" and teach European history?

  14. Hmmm. Alot of winged sun discs in ancient times. There is a strange looking... star at 5h 42m 21.0 22 degrees 36' 45.7" on google sky. It's between Gemeni and Taurus... Alot of bulls in very ancient times... Thought it was all bunk until I came upon a web site that gave the coordinates. Have a look.

  16. Let's see....how long ago did the "Caucasian" escape from the Caucasus Mountains? Much less than 10,000 years ago- and that's being generous. The age of the "Sphinx" was reevaluated recently to be over 800,000 years old and clearly created in the image of someone with African features. A true, historical representation of a Timeline answers many questions, and obliterates any myths.

  19. I have seen this before on a relief over a dusk with two atrendants on each side.

It is the illustration of the greater kingdom over the heaven ( singular) and earth. It represents the earthy dominion that once was Adams as a Sub Domain of the greater dominion of the Creator.
Why is the sun used to reoresent the Creator?
He is a light so brilluant, you cannot look at Him with your eyes.

The earth and its heaven is a sub domain and the two attendants are seated spirit beings. Inside the circular earthy visage is a man.

    This man
is Adam. This is the true representation of the constellation Libra : the dominion the scorpion saught for itself. Those are not scales on each side, they are seated attendants that maintain the system; Gabrial and Michael.
When you see feathers spread downward it is either the true God or the poesur god being represented.

  20. This capstone seems a later variation to the relief I saw but the drooping wings and sun is spot on. The one I saw had a downward shower of rays over a disk seated inside a half base of sorts. It definitely is illustrating a greater dominion and a lesser one. On each side of the downward wings were attending winged spirits giving glory, before them were staffs with snakes entwined, on each side but outside the wings. Between the staffs and the creatures on each side were urns burning incense with glifs inside goving glory topped with symetrical smoke.

The illustration below it has a central image of a woman with a disk above her, it is the woman of Gen 3:15 but the message is that the woman's child is the hope, not the woman, that is where idolatry emerged and corruption of the promise. There are lesser winged beasts also giving glory but here is the rub: the urns are identical but there are no glifs inside! No glory? Or a Mystery to be revealed later? This is a good example of One God getting the praise because the second Adam like the first was not God.

The illustration was a poor copy of a drawing, possibly from the 1800's and good detsal was not seen. I saw this illustration on a site called ascending passagedotcom

The illustration below it was the promise of a godly woman centered in the whole composition.

  21. It is a symbol - wings mean flying, and ball - sun it is an antigravitational mercury nuclear reactor on the sun principle (supernova). 1meter ball lift up about 20tons, it is a basic engine for build pyramids from stone blocks. The same engine uses Vimanas, Die Glocke, USAF TR-3B. The basic technology for traveling in Galaxy.
